Start with the question the prototype must answer
Complex prototype machining is useful to discuss when a part has multiple features or interfaces that need physical review. State whether the sample is for fit, assembly access, a design feature or another defined validation purpose. The design and drawing determine the appropriate process route.
Control revision and critical interfaces
Provide the current CAD model and drawing revision, material grade and sample quantity. Identify datums, mating faces and dimensions that control fit. List finish, deburring and inspection evidence. Mark which features are fixed and which may change after the prototype is reviewed.
Keep prototype acceptance separate from production approval
Define how the sample will be measured and who approves deviations. A prototype alone does not prove production qualification or a performance outcome. Record agreed changes in a controlled drawing revision before requesting the next build.
For broader complex-part machining, see services d'usinage CNC complexe. For five-axis prototype planning, see Prototypage CNC 5 axes.
Prototype RFQ checklist
- CAD and drawing revision
- Prototype purpose and sample quantity
- Material grade and critical interfaces
- Finish, inspection and approval plan
- Known design changes and open questions
Review the sample against the agreed criteria and update the design revision before the next order.
