Use five-axis machining for a defined prototype question
5 axis CNC prototyping can be considered when an early part has angled or multi-face features that need to be reviewed in a physical sample. Start with the question the prototype should answer: fit, interface alignment, assembly access or a design feature that may change. The drawing and model determine whether this process is appropriate.
Keep the revision and validation scope clear
Send the current CAD model and drawing revision, material grade, quantity and features to inspect. Mark interfaces and critical dimensions from the chosen datums. If the prototype is for assembly evaluation, identify mating components and the condition in which fit will be checked. Do not treat a prototype as proof of production qualification unless the validation plan says so.
Separate prototype needs from production assumptions
State whether the sample is for design review, fit checking or another stated purpose. List finish, coating, deburring and inspection evidence. Note which requirements are fixed and which may change after evaluation. This helps keep a prototype quote focused without implying a guaranteed schedule or performance result.

Prototype RFQ checklist
- Modèle CAO et révision du plan
- Material, quantity and any approved substitutions
- Prototype purpose and features to evaluate
- Dimensions critiques, finition et méthode d'inspection
- Known design changes or production assumptions to exclude
Review the delivered sample against the agreed drawing and acceptance criteria, then issue a controlled revision before requesting another build.
