Use a prototype to answer a defined design question
Medical device prototyping can include machined components used to review fit, assembly, access or a defined mechanical feature. Before requesting a sample, state what the prototype must help the team learn. A machined part alone does not validate a complete device, prove clinical performance or establish regulatory approval.
Choose fidelity to match the review
A fit-check sample may use different material or finish from a later functional build. If the prototype must represent a specific material or interface, state that requirement on the drawing. Identify features that are still changing and separate them from dimensions that must be controlled for this iteration.
Prepare the prototype RFQ
- Send the CAD model and matching drawing revision.
- Den Prüfzweck und die Musterstückzahl angeben.
- Specify material, finish, critical features and assembly interfaces.
- List inspection evidence and records required for the review.
- Request a project-specific schedule after scope review.
Keep evaluation and qualification separate
Prototype results can inform design decisions, but the device maker defines verification, validation and regulatory steps. Confirm what the machining supplier can document for the part and what remains the responsibility of the design organization.
For the machining service scope, see medizinische CNC-Bearbeitungsdienstleistungen. For part-focused quotation requirements, review Medizinischer Prototyp der Zerspanung.
Plan the next iteration
After evaluation, record the change request, update the drawing revision and identify which test criteria need to be repeated. This creates a clear handoff from one prototype build to the next.
