Match the service to the prototype objective
Custom rapid prototyping services can refer to different processes. This page covers CNC machining for customer prototype parts; it does not describe machine sales or every possible prototyping method. State the geometry and evaluation goal so the requested machining scope can be reviewed.
Provide the design and material requirements
Send a controlled drawing and model, part number, revision, material, quantity, finish, and critical dimensions. Explain whether the part is being checked for fit, assembly, a functional feature, or another defined purpose. Identify any features still under design review.
Confirm operations and schedule
Clarify which machining and secondary operations, inspection records, and packaging are included. Give a target date and obtain schedule confirmation for the part, materials, quantity, and current workload. A rapid-prototyping phrase is not itself a delivery guarantee.
Use feedback to update the next revision
Record prototype results against the relevant drawing features. Route design changes through the responsible approval process, issue a new revision, and confirm any impact on price, inspection, or delivery before requesting another build.
Plan later production as a separate scope
If the prototype may move into repeat production, define the later quantity, acceptance plan, documentation, packaging, and schedule separately. Prototype terms do not automatically apply to subsequent orders.
