What affects CNC machining cost in China?
The cost of a CNC machined part is an estimate for a defined scope. A useful comparison begins with the same drawing revision, material, quantity, tolerances, finishing and delivery terms. This page explains common quote components; it does not provide a fixed price list because part geometry and requirements vary.
Typical cost components to review
Material and stock preparation
Material grade, stock size, availability and the amount of material removed can all affect cost. Specify the required grade and whether an alternative is acceptable. If the grade is left open, suppliers may price different materials.
Programming, setup and machining time
Part complexity, tool access, number of setups, required features and production quantity influence planning and machine time. Deep cavities, thin walls, tight tolerances and complex orientations may require extra care. A clear model and drawing reduce assumptions during review.
Quantity and repeat orders
Setup effort is not the same as per-part machining effort. The unit price may change across prototype, small-batch and repeat quantities. Compare the same quantity and ask whether tooling or setup charges are one-time or recurring.
Finishing and inspection
Deburring, anodizing, plating, coating, heat treatment or other specified operations may be separate line items. State appearance requirements, masking areas and inspection expectations. Identify whether a measurement report is requested and which dimensions it must cover.
Packaging and delivery
Packaging method, shipment destination and freight terms affect the delivered total. Request a clear statement of the shipping assumption and any items excluded from the machining quote.
How to compare estimates
- Confirm each supplier used the same drawing revision and material grade.
- Match quantity, tolerances, finish and inspection scope.
- Separate one-time setup from recurring costs.
- List exclusions such as freight, packaging or secondary operations.
- Ask about assumptions that are not stated in the quote.
For the buyer-facing checklist, see preventivi di lavorazione CNC dalla Cina. For a quote request, the pagina di preventivo per lavorazioni CNC personalizzate lists the information to provide.
Prepare an RFQ that can be priced
Include a 2D drawing, a 3D model when available, quantity, material, critical dimensions, finishing, inspection, packaging and destination. Mark revision status and identify any approved alternatives. The supplier can then review a more consistent scope and explain which details still need confirmation.
Any estimate remains dependent on the final drawing, specifications and logistics assumptions. Review the stated scope and exclusions before treating two prices as comparable.
