Industrial Machined Parts: Information for a Useful RFQ

Industrial machined parts are components used in equipment, tools or assemblies. The name covers many different designs, so a buyer should define the part by its interfaces and approved operating requirements rather than expect a generic product list to fit every use.

Explain where the part fits

Provide the part number and assembly context needed to identify mounting, alignment, contact, motion or fluid interfaces. Include the controlled drawing and revision, and identify which file governs geometry.

Specify application requirements from the design

State the required material, finish and any relevant operating conditions that the design authority has established. Do not substitute a broad industry description for the actual specification. If the part is a replacement, identify the original revision and the approval owner.

Clarify quote and supply scope

Ask the supplier to list included machining, outside processes, inspection, packaging and delivery terms. Identify which records accompany the parts and how a proposed material or design change will be approved.

Define functional acceptance

Mark dimensions and features that affect installation or operation. State their acceptance criteria and requested verification records. Any safety or performance validation remains with the responsible engineering organization.

Make repeat orders consistent

Store the approved files, quote, inspection requirements and change history together. Confirm the revision and scope again when releasing future quantities so a previous order does not silently become the specification.
