What to Expect When Working with a CNC Service Provider

This page focuses on the working sequence with a CNC service provider, from the first file review to delivery. It is not a list of unverified machine capabilities. The buyer supplies a clear part requirement, and both parties confirm the work and evidence that belong to the order.

1. Prepare the request

Send the current drawing and model, part number, revision, material, quantity, finish and acceptance criteria. Identify the contact who can answer engineering questions and approve changes.

2. Review the quote and questions

Ask the provider to confirm included operations, outside processes, inspection records, exclusions and delivery assumptions. Resolve open points before issuing the order so the quote does not rely on unclear defaults.

3. Approve files and changes

Keep the accepted drawing revision linked to the quote and purchase order. If the design, quantity or material changes, record the new requirement and wait for confirmation of its effect before work continues.

4. Align on progress and inspection

Agree how schedule updates and nonconformances will be communicated. State what inspection evidence is required and who reviews it. Do not assume a report or special process is included unless it is stated in the order.

5. Confirm delivery handoff

Check packaging, shipping terms, destination information and the documents that should accompany the parts. Save the final quote, approved revision and acceptance records together for future repeat orders.

Set expectations in writing

A short written scope covering files, approvals, records and delivery gives the buyer and service provider a shared reference. Project-specific schedules and capabilities should be confirmed in the quote.
