A Practical Review Plan for CNC Machined Prototypes

CNC machined prototype parts are made to evaluate a defined design at an early or iterative stage. The buyer should state what the prototype is meant to answer—such as fit, packaging, interface or a design detail—and distinguish that learning goal from full product validation.

Define the prototype build

Provide the current drawing or model, revision, material, quantity and requested finish. Identify which dimensions are fixed and which features are exploratory. State whether a sample needs to match a production-intent material or is only for a specific design check.

Choose useful evaluation criteria

List how the prototype will be reviewed: assembly fit, access, appearance or a named measurement. Agree who will inspect it, what record is needed and how results will be documented. Do not treat a prototype as evidence for performance beyond the tests actually completed.

Use feedback to control the next revision

Record observations against the prototype revision. Have the authorized design contact decide which changes to make, then release a revised drawing before ordering another build. Confirm the impact on material, quote and schedule.

Separate prototype and production questions

A successful fit check does not automatically establish production capability, process control or certification. If the design is moving toward repeat orders, define the additional evidence and approvals required for that stage.

For the general part drawing package, see Детали, обработанные на станках с ЧПУ. For limited quantities and quote assumptions, review механически обработанные детали малой серии.

Close the prototype loop

Save the build revision, inspection or test observations, approved changes and next-step decision together. A short record prevents later orders from being based on an unapproved prototype modification.
