Use the approved material grade
Custom stainless steel parts should follow the grade and condition specified by the approved design. Provide the material standard, part number, quantity, and drawing revision. If an alternative is considered, route it through design approval rather than assuming grades have equivalent properties.
Identify the componentâs functional features
Show mounting faces, bores, threads, holes, sealing areas, and the dimensions that control fit. Provide a model with the drawing when useful and ensure that the files match. State units, datums, edge requirements, and inspection records required by the order.
Specify finish and post-processing
Reference any required surface treatment or finish and identify the affected surfaces. Clarify whether dimensions apply before or after the secondary process and whether material or process documentation is needed.
Plan acceptance and traceability
Identify critical features and how they will be checked. If lot identification or material records are required, state that in the purchase scope and confirm what the supplier will provide. Verify any certifications or customer approvals directly for the actual supplier and site.
Compare like-for-like quotations
Use the same grade, condition, revision, quantity, finish, inspection, packaging, and delivery terms across quotes. Review assumptions and exclusions for each operation before award.
