Mechanical PTFE (Reprocessed) is the economical choice for industrial components requiring the chemical inertness and low friction of Teflon without the high cost of virgin resin. While it features slightly lower mechanical and electrical properties, it remains highly effective for manufacturing industrial gaskets, spacers, and wear pads. Jucheng Precision provides high-volume CNC machining for Mechanical PTFE, delivering cost-efficient, precisely machined components for the chemical, heavy machinery, and general industrial sectors where performance and budget must be perfectly balanced.
| Grade | Common Name | Key Characteristics | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mechanical PTFE | Reprocessed / Recycled | Most economical grade. Excellent chemical resistance and low friction at a lower price point. | Industrial spacers, gaskets, wear pads, non-critical insulators. |
| Virgin PTFE | Premium Unfilled | 99.9% Pure. Best dielectric properties and FDA compliant. Pure white appearance. | Medical implants, food fluidics, high-frequency electronics. |
| Glass-Filled PTFE | Reinforced Teflon | Added glass fibers to reduce creep and increase wear life under load. | Valve seats, high-load bearings, structural gaskets. |
| Capability | Technical Description | Jucheng Advantage |
|---|---|---|
| High-Volume Gasket Turning | Utilizing automated lathes to turn hundreds of industrial washers and spacers per hour. | Jucheng offers the most competitive unit pricing for high-volume Mechanical PTFE hardware due to optimized cycle times. |
| Large Format Slab Milling | Milling oversized wear plates and guide rails from thick reprocessed PTFE slabs. | Our large-travel CNC centers can process plates up to 2 meters, ensuring flat and uniform surfaces for industrial sliding systems. |
| Precision Boring | Machining internal diameters for protective sleeves and chemical pipe liners. | We maintain consistent wall thickness and concentricity, ensuring reliable protection for metal components in corrosive environments. |
| Complex Industrial Profiling | Cutting non-standard shapes for chemical tank scrapers and support blocks. | We utilize high-speed routing and 3-axis milling to deliver complex Mechanical PTFE shapes with clean, snag-free edges. |
Cost vs. Performance:
Mechanical PTFE is made from reprocessed resin. Tip: While it retains the friction and chemical properties of Teflon, it has lower tensile strength. Use it for spacers and supports rather than high-pressure seals.
Visual Identification:
Reprocessed PTFE often has a slightly off-white or greyish tint compared to the bright white of Virgin PTFE. Tip: Do not use this grade for high-purity medical or food applications where contaminants could be an issue.
Machinability:
It machines very similarly to virgin PTFE but can be slightly more abrasive due to potential inclusions. Tip: We use sharp carbide tools to ensure a smooth finish and prevent material “tearing.”
Dimensional Creep:
Reprocessed PTFE is prone to “cold flow” just like virgin material. Tip: We design parts with adequate cross-sections and recommend using this grade for static applications rather than high-load moving parts.
Industrial Piping & Valves
Corrosion-resistant spacers, gaskets, and flange liners used in general chemical transport systems.
Heavy Machinery
Wear strips, slide plates, and support blocks where a low-friction surface is needed to protect moving metal parts.
Electrical Enclosures
Non-critical insulating blocks and spacers that benefit from PTFE’s high arc resistance and thermal stability.
Automotive Aftermarket
Bushings and washers for non-critical assemblies where the chemical resistance of Teflon is desired at a budget-friendly cost.
