Nylon 12 (PA12)

Nylon 12 (PA12) represents the high-performance tier of the polyamide family, distinguished by its exceptionally low moisture absorption and superior dimensional stability. Unlike standard nylons that swell in humid conditions, PA12 maintains its size and mechanical properties, making it the most reliable choice for precision fluidics and outdoor equipment. Jucheng Precision specializes in the high-tolerance CNC machining of PA12, producing complex fuel system connectors, subsea cable clamps, and aerospace insulators. Our expertise in managing the material's unique ductility ensures that your PA12 components are delivered with flawless surface finishes and the structural toughness required for critical applications in automotive, offshore, and industrial sectors.

Nylon 12 Machining

High-Performance Polyamide Variants

Grade Common Name Key Characteristics Typical Applications
Nylon 12 (PA12) Low-Moisture Nylon Lowest water absorption of all nylons. Superior dimensional stability and chemical resistance to oils/fuels. Fuel lines, subsea connectors, precision gears, outdoor enclosures.
Nylon 6/6 (PA66) Extruded Nylon Higher stiffness and strength than PA12 but higher moisture absorption. Excellent for general engineering. Automotive engine parts, electrical insulators, industrial fasteners.
Nylon 11 (PA11) Bio-based Nylon Produced from renewable castor oil. High impact resistance and great flexibility. Oil and gas flexible liners, high-pressure hoses.

Nylon 12 Machining Capabilities

Capability Technical Description Jucheng Advantage
High-Stability Milling Machining PA12 into complex fluidic manifolds and housings that must maintain tolerances over long periods. Our precision 5-axis centers deliver +/- 0.02mm accuracy, leveraging PA12’s low moisture uptake for zero-drift dimensions.
Precision Fuel Connector Turning Turning intricate internal seal grooves and threads for fuel and hydraulic systems. Jucheng achieves Ra 0.4μm surface finishes in critical seal zones, ensuring leak-proof performance in high-pressure environments.
Thin-Wall Tube Machining Boring and milling thin-walled sleeves and protectors without material warping. Specialized workholding prevents deformation of the ductile PA12 material, maintaining perfect concentricity.
Chemical Resistant Finishing Preparing PA12 surfaces for use in aggressive oil, fuel, or subsea environments. We provide 100% burr-free finishes, essential for internal channels where debris could contaminate sensitive fluid systems.

Fabrication Guidelines for Nylon 12 (PA12)

Lowest Moisture Swell:
Nylon 12 has the lowest moisture absorption rate (~0.25%) of any polyamide. Tip: This makes it much easier to hold tight tolerances compared to PA66, as the part dimensions won’t fluctuate with humidity changes.

Cold Impact Strength:
PA12 remains extremely tough even in freezing temperatures. Tip: It is the best choice for winter sports equipment or subsea components where other plastics would become brittle.

Tooling Sharpness:
PA12 is slightly softer than PA66. Tip: We use ultra-sharp tools with positive rake angles to ensure the material is cut cleanly rather than pushed, which can cause surface smearing.

Chemical Environment:
PA12 has superior resistance to greases, fuels, and oils. Tip: It is the standard for under-hood and downhole tools where chemical exposure is constant.
