What is 3 & 4-Axis Milling?

3-axis milling moves the cutting tool along three linear axes (X, Y, Z), enabling machining of flat surfaces, pockets, holes, and simple 3D contours. This is the most common and cost-effective milling configuration.

4-axis milling adds a rotary axis (typically A-axis), allowing the workpiece to rotate while the tool moves. This enables machining around cylindrical parts, creating features on multiple sides without repositioning, and producing more complex geometries efficiently.
