Ventajas

Lock the approved alloy and temper

Use the material standard in the released design and review substitutions through the proper approval path.

Connect dimensions to assembly

Highlight the mating surfaces and features that determine fit or alignment.

Specify post-machining finishes

Identify treatments, affected surfaces, final dimension condition, and required documents.

Compare a complete part package

Align revision, quantity, inspection, finish, records, and delivery terms across quotes.

Planning custom aluminum machined components

Confirme la designación del material

Custom aluminum machining parts should be quoted against the alloy and temper specified by the approved design. Include the material standard, part number, quantity, and current revision. If an alternative is considered, obtain approval before changing the material requirement.

Describe functional geometry

Identify the mating faces, bores, threads, holes, pockets, and dimensions that control the component’s fit or use. Provide the drawing and model when available and ensure units and revisions match. State which features require documented inspection.

Define the finished surface

Reference any required anodizing, coating, finishing, or other secondary operation and identify affected surfaces. Specify whether final dimensions apply before or after that process and list any required records.

Account for assembly and handling

Show thin sections, edges, tapped features, and interfaces that need protection or special acceptance. If the part is part of an assembly, provide the mating reference and explain any functional clearance or alignment requirements.

Compare the part scope

Request matching quotes for the same alloy, temper, quantity, revision, machining and finish scope, inspection records, and delivery terms. Review exclusions and assumptions for each operation.

Preguntas frecuentes

What should an aluminum part machining RFQ include?

+

Provide the approved alloy and temper, drawing and model, revision, quantity, functional dimensions, finish, inspection scope, and delivery requirements.

Can the supplier choose an aluminum alloy?

+

The alloy should follow the approved design. Any alternative requires review and approval by the responsible design authority.

¿Cómo se debe especificar el anodizado o el recubrimiento?

+

Reference the applicable specification, identify affected surfaces, and state whether final dimensions apply before or after treatment.

What should be checked for an assembled aluminum part?

+

Identify mating references, functional dimensions, required clearances or alignment, finish, and how the features will be inspected.

What surface finish options are available for custom aluminum machining parts, and how do I choose the right one?

+

Custom aluminum machining parts can be finished with several surface treatments, each offering different benefits. The most common option is as-machined, where the part retains its natural mill finish—functional but with visible tool marks. For improved appearance and corrosion resistance, clear or colored anodizing is popular; it creates a hard, durable oxide layer that can be dyed in various colors (e.g., black, red, or blue). Type II anodizing provides a decorative and protective finish, while Type III (hard anodizing) offers extreme wear resistance for high-friction applications. Bead blasting gives a uniform matte texture, while powder coating adds a thick, impact-resistant layer in any color. For electrical conductivity, you might choose a chemical conversion coating (Alodine) or leave the part bare. To choose the right finish, consider the part’s environment: outdoor use or exposure to moisture favors anodizing or powder coating; high-wear areas benefit from hard anodizing; and cosmetic applications often go with bead blasting plus anodizing. Always discuss the finish with your manufacturer, as it can affect dimensional tolerances and cost.
