This acts as an internal lubricant and chip breaker. <strong>Tip:<\/strong> This makes it the &#8220;easiest&#8221; steel to machine, but it also means the material cannot be welded safely due to lead fumes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Non-Weldable Warning:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>12L14 is considered non-weldable.<\/strong> Welding causes extreme brittleness and hazardous toxic fumes. <strong>Tip:<\/strong> If your assembly requires welding, choose 1018 steel instead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Heat Treatment:<\/strong><br \/>\n12L14 is not through-hardenable.
