It will rust immediately if exposed to moisture. <strong>Tip:<\/strong> Parts must be oiled, Black Oxide coated, Zinc Plated, or Painted immediately after machining.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Not Thru-Hardenable:<\/strong><br \/>\nYou cannot heat treat 1018 to harden it all the way through (like 4140). It can only be <strong>Case Hardened<\/strong> (surface hardening).
