Identify internal or external surfaces
Cylindrical grinding services may be requested for an external diameter, an internal bore, or related cylindrical features. Mark the surfaces on the drawing and show their relationship to datums and mating parts. Include the part number, material, quantity, and current revision.
Specify size and form requirements
State the final diameter and any required roundness, cylindricity, taper, concentricity, or surface finish callouts that apply to the design. Use the relevant drawing standard and units. Do not rely on a generic precision label to define the acceptable geometry.
Clarify stock, sequence, and measurement
Where grinding follows turning, heat treatment, coating, or another operation, identify the starting condition and required sequence. State how the feature should be measured and whether a report is required. The measurement condition should match the drawing and purchase requirements.
Review adjoining features and edges
Identify shoulders, reliefs, threads, grooves, and transitions near the ground surface. These details can affect access, edge condition, or inspection. Resolve conflicts between the grinding requirement and adjacent geometry before releasing the part.
Request like-for-like quotes
Provide each supplier the same drawing revision, quantity, material, operation sequence, form requirements, finish, and inspection scope. Ask what grinding and measurement records are included.
