Nylon PA66

Nylon 6/6 (PA66) is the premier extruded polyamide for mechanical engineering, offering superior stiffness, hardness, and heat resistance compared to standard Nylon 6. It is favored for its exceptional wear resistance and self-lubricating properties, making it an ideal lightweight replacement for metal in high-speed mechanical parts. Jucheng Precision specializes in the precision CNC machining of Nylon 6/6, utilizing high-speed spindles and optimized chip-breaking tool paths. Our expertise in managing the hygroscopic nature and thermal expansion of PA66 ensures that your complex gears, bushings, and electrical insulators are delivered with the tightest tolerances and superior surface integrity for demanding industrial environments.

Nylon PA66 Machining

Nylon (Polyamide) Material Variants

Grade Common Name Key Characteristics Typical Applications
Nylon 6/6 (PA66) Extruded Nylon Higher melting point, stiffness, and hardness than PA6. Best for automated machining. Engine components, high-load gears, electrical insulators, industrial fasteners.
Nylon 6 (PA6) Cast Nylon Lower internal stress in large shapes. Better impact damping but lower heat resistance. Large sheaves, wear pads, oversized rollers.
Glass-Filled Nylon PA66 GF30 Reinforced with 30% glass fiber. significantly higher stiffness and dimensional stability. Power tool housings, pump impellers, structural brackets.
MoS2 Filled Nylon Nylatron® Added Molybdenum Disulfide for enhanced self-lubrication and wear resistance. Dark grey/black. High-speed bearings, bushings, cams.

Nylon 6/6 Machining Capabilities

Capability Technical Description Jucheng Advantage
High-Speed Automated Turning Utilizing bar-fed CNC lathes to produce spacers, bushings, and fasteners at maximum spindle speeds. Our 24/7 automated lines deliver PA66 parts with tight tolerances and exceptional cost-efficiency for large production batches.
Precision Gear Milling Machining high-precision spur and helical gears with optimized tooth surface finishes to reduce friction. We hold gear tolerances within 0.02mm, providing quiet-running, durable plastic gears for industrial drives and appliances.
Thin-Wall Component Milling Machining PA66 into thin-walled electrical housings and clips without material deformation. Our specialized workholding and adaptive tool paths ensure that even delicate Nylon features maintain their intended geometry.
Micro-Drilling & Tapping Drilling small-diameter holes and tapping threads directly into the tough Nylon 6/6 substrate. Jucheng achieves burr-free internal threads that resist stripping, essential for high-reliability electrical connector bodies.

Fabrication Guidelines for Nylon 6/6 (PA66)

Moisture & Tolerance Control:
PA66 is hygroscopic and will swell as it absorbs moisture. Tip: We recommend machining parts “dry-to-print” and accounting for approximately 1.5% to 2% dimensional growth in humid assembly environments.

Heat Management:
While PA66 has a higher melting point (260°C) than PA6, it is still heat-sensitive. Tip: We use ultra-sharp, high-rake carbide tools and abundant coolant to prevent surface melting and “gumming” of the cutting flutes.

Stress Relieving:
Extruded PA66 rod and plate often contain internal stresses. Tip: For parts with critical flatnesses, Jucheng utilizes a rough-machining followed by a resting period or annealing cycle before final finishing.

Deburring Strategy:
Nylon 6/6 is tough and produces stringy burrs. Tip: We utilize specialized high-speed routing and manual trimming under magnification to ensure all edges are clean and burr-free for electronic assemblies.

Primary Applications

Automotive Engine Zone
Connectors, wire loom holders, and fluid reservoirs that must withstand heat, oils, and vibrations under the hood.

Industrial Drive Systems
Gears, sprockets, and pulleys where PA66’s high strength and self-lubricating properties reduce noise and maintenance.

Electrical & Electronics
Insulators, terminal blocks, and connector housings requiring high dielectric strength and UL94 flammability compliance.

Consumer Appliances
Moving mechanical parts in washing machines, dishwashers, and power tools where toughness and chemical resistance are key.
